What is the Elite: Dangerous Organization?

Frontier Developments' Elite Dangerous is a space simulation game set in the year 3305. The player assumes the position of a commander, who can be a trader, an explorer, a bounty hunter, or any other job in the game. The commander travels across a 1:1 scale Milky Way galaxy with 400 billion star systems and 100 thousand or more exoplanet systems. The player is given a spaceship and a modest amount of money at the start of the game, and must earn additional money by fulfilling jobs from stations and non-player characters (NPCs). Commanders obtain rated status with several non-player forces that govern entire star systems or sectors of space, in addition to monetary prizes.
