Founded in 2007 by Bill Ready, Bryan Johnson, and Max Levchin, Braintree offers a merchant account for e-commerce companies that seamlessly integrate with their point of sale systems. The company provides clients with a payment gateway to process credit card transactions on websites or mobile apps. On September 26, 2013, Braintree was acquired by PayPal for $800 million USD.
