What is the Department of Transportation Organization?

Department of Transportation (DOT) is a United States Cabinet department that is responsible for all transport-related matters in the country. The idea of the U.S. government having a Department of Transportation was first proposed by former President Woodrow Wilson in 1921. It was until 1966 that the DOT was formed as a result of an act of Congress. The department then began its operations in 1967. The DOT currently has its headquarters located in Washington D.C. and is led by Elaine Chai, the United Secretary of Transport. She oversees the functioning of this department and all its child agencies.
