World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized United Nations (UN) agency dealing with international public health. It was founded on April 7, 1948, based in Geneva, Switzerland. WHO is a member of the United Nations Development Group and its predecessor, the Health Organization, was a League of Nations agency. The main responsibility was to help people in need of medical help. The World Health Organization constitution was signed by all 69 United Nations states on July 22, 1946, with the first meeting of the World Health Assembly concluded on July 24, 1948. It incorporated the International Bureau of Public Hygiene and the League of Nations Organization of Health. Since its creation, it has played a pivotal role in the eradication of smallpox. Current priorities include communicable diseases, in particular, HIV / AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis; mitigate the effects of non-communicable diseases; sexual and reproductive health, development, and aging; nutrition, food safety and healthy eating; occupational health; substance abuse; and drive the development of reporting, publications and networks. The first meeting of the World Health Assembly ended on July 24, 1948, providing a $ 5 million budget for 1949. Andrija Stampar was the first President of the Assembly, and G. Brock Chisholm was appointed Director-General of the WHO, who served as Executive Secretary during the planning stages. its first priorities were to control the spread of malaria, tuberculosis and improve maternal and child health, nutrition and environmental hygiene.
